For many months now, Ruto have traversed several regions across Kenya notably Western, Coast and Central in the pretext of launching projects but the scenario is likely to change.

The executive order now gives Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i powers to supervise, monitor and communicate the status of all government projects across the country thus limiting Ruto's trips across the country.

Political analyst Richard Bosire says the move could now render the DP a lame duck deputy president, adding that he has to change his strategy for survival.

"Uhuru and Raila Odinga have made Kenyans believe that early campaigns are polarizing. This means that whoever who continues to engage in them is an enemy of development.

"The DP has been literally blocked from moving across the country. This means he can no longer purport to launch, monitor or supervise. It's just a simple communication to him to remain at Harambee Annex."

Interestingly, Matiang'i, who is a subordinate of the DP, will report directly to the president. And should Ruto now want to launch any project, he has perhaps to consult Dr Matiang'i led Committee or the president first.

And as such, the DP could now only attend fundraisers in churches, a move that has equally been criticised before. The latest order comes at least five months after Uhuru warned treasury against initiating new projects before completing old ones.

Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko, a close ally of Raila, hinted that the move was meant to reduce political temperatures. Both Uhuru and Raila have accused Ruto albeit indirectly of putting the country in a campaign mood through his trips across the country.
