The Ministry of Education has been put on the spotlight over the oversupply of books in schools.

Parliament has now summoned Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to explain the same and why operations are not running smoothly in schools across the country. 

In a meeting of the National Assembly’s Education Committee chaired by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, the members agreed to summon the CS in a bid to ensure the schools perform better in the coming years. 

The CS has also been put to task to explain delayed released in capitation as well as congestion in the schools.

The Ministry has been faulted for doing little to change the current situation across the schools. 

The parliamentary committee alludes that the situation on the ground is not pleasing despite millions being channels to the sector

“We want to see the money being used to buy books now go to the development of infrastructure and equipping of laboratories in schools,” Mr Melly said, as Daily Nation quoted him

The committee noted that the congestion has been facing most schools across the country and little is being done to solve the situation. The committee has also ordered the ministry to release funds to schools to enable them to operate without the pressure of any kind. 

The team further said that the officials who behind the dumping of books in schools should be investigated and action was taken against them if they are found culpable
