This is after completion of the refurbishment of a Sh15 billion Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) plant in Kisumu.

The plant was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in July last year, and has started receiving sorghum from contracted farmers.

On Thursday, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mwangi Kiunjuri toured the plant and thanked the KBL’s parent company the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) leadership for setting up the Kisumu plant.

He said the plant will have a positive economic impact on the residents of Kisumu and neighboring areas.

“This one is directly impacting into our people, the peasant farmers. In this project, I am informed that we are going to increase the utilization of sorghum from the current 20 metric tones a year to 40 metric tones,” he said.

The CS said that refurbishment and eventual opening of the plant is in direct line with the government’s big four agenda.

“With the sorghum farmers now coming up, it will support the other big four for the President which include manufacturing and affordable housing,” said the CS.

Affordable health care and food security complete President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big four agenda.

The Head of State is banking on the big four to leave a lasting legacy when he retires in 2022.
