Traders try to go through the debris to salvage any possible valuables still unaffected by the fire. 

"I have lost a whole bale of clothes that arrived just today morning. All of it under there," says Eric Mutwiri as he points to where once was his kibanda. 

"These fires are too much. We know there must be a political force behind the burning of low-end marketplaces in Nairobi," says Jane Kariuki, a trader at the market.

Fire fighters finally contain the fire. 

6.10pm

Firefighters secure one side of the market. The fire is still heavy in other parts. 

5.50pm 

Nairobi county firefighters arrive at the scene. 

Penetrating to the inside of the fire is difficult because of heavy traffic.

5.30pm

Nairobi Uhuru Market along Jogoo Road is in flames and according to sources, the fire started a few minutes past 5 pm. 

Several people are feared dead as traders said colleagues are missing. 

Firefighters and police have arrived at the scene.
