Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe on Monday registered for the ongoing digital registration of persons popularly known as Huduma Namba.
Top government officials have been mobilising Kenyans to register in the Sh7 billion listing exercise which is still facing a vicious court battle that has to some extent reduced it's implementation.
General Samson Mwathethe joined top leaders in lobbying for registration after directing all service commanders to ensure KDF troops are registered within the 45 days.
"The government is keen to make it easy for citizens to receive services. The Huduma Namba would help many people get this services without difficulties," he said.
Mwathethe added: "I have instructed Service Commanders to ensure listing is done for all our service men within 45 days. This is an exercise that must be embraced all the time."
The army chief is set to exit the military this month should President Uhuru Kenyatta fail to extend his term for another year according to KDF Act. He replaced General Julius Karangi in 2015.
Despite the provision to extend the term, Uhuru could be guided by Tonje Rules, which dictates that the CDF retires upon reaching 64 years or after serving his 4 years term as the military boss.
And as such, he's set to be replaced by Vice Chief of Defense Forces Lt. General Robert Kibochi, a seasoned military officer who joined the service in 1979. Kibochi is also likely to be deputised by Air Force Commander Major-General Francis Ogolla.
Should the changes happen within the next few days, Major-General Fatuma Ahmed could become the first lady to be a service commander in Air Force due to expected promotion of Ogolla.
Mwathethe raised eyebrows among the political class in 2017 when he openly warned Raila Odinga led opposition against secession talks ahead of the polls.
