While appearing before the parliamentary Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism on Thursday, Balala faulted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the way it is handling a probe into the awarding of Sh100 million contract.

The CS insisted that he has done nothing wrong during his reign in office. He accused media houses across the country for tainting his name in the fight against the vice.

Balala said that there is nothing wrong with accounting for public funds but when a section of leaders decided to bring in their political differences things take a different twist.

“I am being blackmailed for political reasons,” he told the committee, as quoted by Daily Nation.

He claimed that an officer of an agency, which he didn’t disclose had approached him and asked him about his 2022 plans after he had recorded a statement with the corruption watchdog, which left so many questions lingering in his mind.

The CS termed the said probe into the payment of Sh.100 million, which he made in 2017 during the American Society of Travel Agents (Asta) Destination Expo in Nairobi is not only ill-timed but also ill-motivated.

He also said that there is nothing sinister when he records a statement over what is happening in his ministry
