Kenyatta has been the de facto Mt Kenya leader since 2013.

There is fear of a leadership vacuum among the Agikuyu since, unlike in the other elections, it not clear who will lead the populous community in the next polls.

But veteran politician Maina Kamanda has come out to calm the fears by naming two leaders he believes has the potential to succeed Uhuru.

Kamanda, who is also a nominated Member of Parliament, identified Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Thika Township MP Patrick Wainaina popularly known as Jungle.

Speaking during the launch of local musicians Sacco (TAMCO) at Thika Greens, the MP said the duo have a national outlook and praised them for showing great leadership qualities.

"We have seen leaders like Governor wa Iria re-elected and rising to political heights by being elected vice chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG). We should not think the region has fallen short of representation," he said.

Kamanda's remarks will definitely spark a debate in the Kikuyu land since there are other politicians who havean interest in the powerful position.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo are some of the leaders with interest to take over from Uhuru.

Others are former presidential contenders Martha Karua and Peter Kenneth.
