According to the man who discovered Omieri 30 years ago only indentified as Mr Osumba, they witnessed a bumper harvest this year after it was made clear that the snake’s remains would be returned to its ancestral home for public viewing.

“Actually the harvest was so heavy this year. And that is why we believe it has a lot of blessings,” Mr Osumba told NTV weekend edition on Sunday.

The legendary snake died 30 years ago in the hills of Wasare Village in Nyakach, Kisumu County following injuries arising from wildfires.

The remains were then taken to the Nairobi museum for preservation. Omieri’s remains were brought back to the Lakeside City last week to mark the third national cultural celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Stadium.

On Sunday the remains were taken to Wasare Village. They will then be returned to Kisumu museum and then taken back to Nairobi at the end of October.

But Mr Osumba wants the snake’s remains to remain in Wasare.

"We want Omieri's remains to remain in Wasare so that we can build a snake park here,” he said.
