Led by Mzee Ambrose Kiprono, the 300 members are now demanding to be given a 150-acre piece of land to distribute among themselves failure to which they will destroy the crops planted on it.

“The Emo group was formed in 2006 for the purpose of Empowering the community and 112,000 million shillings was collected from members to buy the land which was owned by a white settler at an affordable price for development purposes and its sad that someone has taken it as his property,” Mzee Kiprono told the press on Tuesday.

The elders blamed the seven directors of the group for leasing the land to a private farmer and stopping the elders from cultivating the land and not giving members dividends.

“It is sad that the directors have sold a 150-acre piece of land secretly and are planning to buy a story building in Eldoret town without consulting all members through an AGM,” he added.

They claimed that the directors have pocketed 30,000,000 from the payment made by the farmers without disclosing to the members.

The aggrieved elders said they contributed between Sh20,000 and Sh100,000 as shares to the group and some sold their property to get the money.

They appealed to the EACC, DCI, DPP and the Office of the President to start investigations to help the shareholders regain their land back which they are worried that cartels might use their influence to grab.

However, when contacted, Charles Kandie who is one of the directors being accused by the elders said the 150-acre piece of land was not sold but set aside for business purposes and they had planned to have a meeting with the elders to explain the new development to them.
