In a Facebook post on Thursday, the MP said that Uhuru is right to declare that no public officers should be given permission to pursue different careers while at the same time remain in the legal profession.

The Head of State made the remarks during the commemoration of the 56th Jamhuri Day at Nyayo Stadium.

“I support this position 100%. You cannot be a state officer and pretend to go to court as a lawyer to represent suspects unless you have an interest in their criminal acts. That is against our constitution and we will enforce that to avoid any conflict of interest,” Wambugu Ngunjiri posted.

Uhuru is believed to have been referring to the case in which Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior represented Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The governor was arrested over the alleged loss of Sh357 million.

The two have been under public scrutiny for representing clients in court while at the same time fighting for justice.

The move of the President has caused a storm in the political circle after he asked the Attorney General to draft a law on conflict of interest.
