At the Senate on Thursday, Wetangula admonished Maraga's decision to make an appearance at a roadside rally in Kisii Town in which Uhuru, DP William Ruto and Raila Odinga addressed people.

“When I heard the Chief Justice saying that he is happy that the executive has come to bring development to his homeland…he is not the Chief Justice of Kisii. He is the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya,” he remarked.

Wetangula added: “If you go to England, the ordinary man does not know who the CJ is…you meet the CJ in his judgements or in court.”

But ODM blogger and now a senior assistant researcher at the office of Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, Mr Seth Odongo, has come into the defence of the CJ, insisting that he committed no wrong.

"CJ Maraga was justified to attend the Kisii development tour. He comes from Kisii, and, affected by the healthcare infrastructure of the place as anyone else. How he was treated demonstrates the immaturity of our political culture by Executive Branch protocol factotums," he wrote on Twitter.

The CJ attended leaders meeting at Kisii School before proceeding to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where the president was launching a number of new facilities.

But at Capitol Roundabout, Maraga was seen lining up on the road for introduction, something that has irked a section of Kenyans.
