The two hail from Mang'ere village of Boochi Tendere ward, Ogembo sub-county in Kisii County.

Evans and his brother James have overcome incredible odds and have shown how hard work and dedication can change the community in a very positive way regardless of physical disability.

Evans has been digging boreholes since he became blind in 1985. He says he has nothing to do for a living other than digging boreholes. His brother James also became blind at the age of 13 as he returned from school.

The two are a perfect team in digging boreholes and they work together in that; as one is digging, the other waits at the top to pull out the soil

The village of Mangere in Boochi Tendere ward enjoys clean drinking water thanks to the two. They have done boreholes beyond their village into as far as Kilgoris in Transmara Narok county.

Kenyan Constitution states that a person with any disability is entitled to access materials and devices to overcome constraints arising from the person’s disability.

Their only appeal to the government is to be provided with the equipment to help ease their work since they depend on their sweat.

This year's theme for the International Disability day was "Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality."

This year, the UN Secretary-General launched on the Day a flagship report, entitled “UN Flagship Report on Disability and Development | 2018 – Realizing the SDGs by, for and with persons with disabilities”.

Evans and James are a living proof that life can go on despite the challenges one may face every day.
