The body of the late Benjamin Kinyali, a staunch supporter of Governor Charity Ngilu was discovered by passers-by who alerted the police, reports the Nation.

The body had burns on the hands and chest. His killers are believed to have placed a tyre on his neck after killing him and set him ablaze.

However, the fire went out minutes later leaving the deceased's body partly burned.

According to reports, the deceased was last seen on Tuesday night drinking with friends at Vanilla bar in Kitui town until 11 pm.

His friends later dropped him at his residence within Kitui town.

The incident was confirmed by Katulani sub-county Police Commander, Ng'etich who said investigations are underway.

He said that the deceased's wife was detained for questioning following the last movements of her husband after he arrived home.

The wife who works as an accountant at South Eastern Kenya University was arrested after reporting about the incident.

The death of Kinyali has shocked Kitui residents who have called for a speedy probe to ensure his killers are brought to book.
