In a tweet on Thursday, the outspoken governing Jubilee Party legislator appeared to take issue with the extension.

Senator Cherargei held the view that the extension would be a source of disagreement, wondering whether the conflict of interest law would be part of the revised BBI.

"The extension of BBI Term is another source of disagreement what did we launch in Bomas? The conflict of interest law to be included?" Cherargei's tweet read.

President Uhuru extended the term of the committee on Thursday.

The move, the move which was announced by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, will see the committee members steer the public participation phase that lays in wait.

“This will largely involve expanding and guiding public participation, and structuring recommendations by Kenyans into implementable action plans,” said Dena.

The announcement came just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the BBI report at the Bomas of Kenya.

How to adopt the initiative's report has been the subject of intense public debate with opinion divided between a referendum and a parliamentary adoption.
