The ODM county lawmaker was arrested alongside four matatu operators after he led protests from Mikindani to Mombasa CBD, paralysing transport operations along Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Kibarani.

Hundreds of matatu operators plying the CBD-Mikindani route participated in the protests, demanding for a permanent bus stop.

They decried harassment from County officials and traffic police, after they were moved from the usual Yukay bus stop at Mwembe Tayari by the county inspectorate to a bus station in the same area.

However, they claimed both the traffic police and county inspectorate officials arrest them whenever they drop or pick up passengers at the new point.

On September 13, Thoya accompanied traffic commander and Mikindani-Kijiweni matatu terminus youth commander in inspecting the current Mikindani stage that he said would help reduce incidents of matatu drivers and conductors being held to court and penalised for unnecessary stoppages at the CBD due to lack of proper designated terminus.

"I will lobby with the minister of transport and infrastructure on the same and work on the public shade for Mikindani matatu stage," the MCA affirmed.

The lawmaker was arrested for allegedly leading an illegal protest.
