Politicians who do not accept defeat are the main problem in Kenya’s elections, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

In his address at Chatham House on Friday, the second in command said that he has confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as far as polls are concerned.

He insisted that the electoral body is not to blame for the challenges Kenyans face during the electioneering period but leaders who are not ready to accept when they lose.

“I believe very strongly in our politics that the IEBC is the least of our problem in my very honest opinion. It is convenient that it is only an excuse for people who do not win elections.

"The real problem in our country is not the management of the elections because to the best of my knowledge and I have seen in many of these elections. The real problem is that we have people who participate in these elections and they have only one outcome in mind, “he said.

In an apparent reference to the Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, who has refused the outcome of Presidential polls in the past, Ruto urged leaders who lose to accept defeat.

He further said that the nation will go nowhere if some leaders are not ready to accept elections results.
