President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Narendra Raval to be the Chancellor of Egerton University for a period of five years.
The appointment which according to a circular released on Friday at the university by Professor Alexander Kahi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in-charge of academic affairs, takes five years with effect from January 11, 2019.
Raval, a Kenyan of Indian origin, married to a Kenyan woman is popularly referred to as the Guru in the local and international business spheres.
He is the founder of Devki Group, the largest manufacturer of steel products in East Africa and is also a renown philanthropist supporting many orphanages in the Nakuru and also a religious author.
The business Guru replaces the Prof Shem Wandiga who was appointed as the Chancellor of the leading Agricultural training institution in Kenya in 2013.
“On behalf of Egerton University I would like to congratulate Narendra Raval for his appointment as Chancellor and we are fortunate to have someone of his calibre and expertise join our university", said Prof. Kahi.
The new chancellor will lead the institution which has an approximation of 20,000 students and 6,000 staff population according to a gazette done on March 8, Volume CXX1-No 29.
