Kenyans earn millions whenever they win marathons across the globe. The recent millionaires in the state are Eliud Kipchoge and Gladys Chereno.

Kipchoge stunned athletic fans by smashing Dennis Kimetto’s 2:02:57 world record at the just concluded 2018 Berlin Marathon. 

The Olympic marathon champion used two hours, one minute and 39 seconds to pocket millions after bettering Kimetto’s 2014 performance in Berlin.

The duo will have over Sh10 million added to their bank accounts. At the Berlin Marathon, the first male and female athlete get Sh5 million each. There is an additional Sh7 million for anyone who sets the world’s best time.

The Dubai Marathon is a gem that most athletes dream of winning. Winners are assured of getting a minimum of Sh20 million. 

The bonus for setting world records stands at Sh10 million. Those who take part in the Boston Marathon are also lucky to win generously in this second-ranked marathon. One is assured of getting Sh15 million once he or she emerges the winner.

The Tokyo Marathon, the New York City Marathon, and Chicago Marathon are other moneyed events. The winner’s cash reward in New York is  Sh13 million, while Chicago bestows Sh10 million upon winners. 

Sh8 million is the prize for emerging first in Tokyo. Moreover, the winning marathoner in the London Marathon is awarded Sh5.5 million.
