Not even his decision to ditch ODM in the run upto the 2017 elections could stop him. His resounding win confirmed that the man from Kinango is a political heavyweight in his own rights.

Buoyed by his newfound fame, the 46-year-old can no longer be ignored by politicians with presidential ambitions on their political equations. For Mvurya, he is now Deputy President William Ruto's point man in the county that has traditionally supported ODM leader Raila Odinga.

With Kwale being at the centre of the recent ODM rebellion in the Coast region, Mvurya's influence within the region will further complicate Raila's bid to reverse Ruto's gains.

Being Jubilee's commander-in-chief in the county, Mvurya can make or break Raila's political dreams in the county that has seen all but one MP 'join' Jubilee for 'development'.

Going by the recent political developments, Raila suffered a big loss when Mvurya decamped to Jubilee. So far, the former Prime Minister's future in Kwale County is hanging on the balance.
