Mwaura said that the ongoing politicking ahead with regards to the 2022 general elections has diverted the attention of intelligence agencies, hence their inability to prevent the attack.

He added that the agencies are instead busy following up on politicians and their possible  illegal and evil plans for the elections and spending very little time securing the nation.

"Our intelligence agencies, instead of working on avoiding such attacks, are busy following up on politicians and their plans. We need to stop politicking," he advised.

The Jubilee Party lawmaker was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi politics show Saturday morning.

The Tuesday attack left 21 people dead as was communicated by the National Police Service through Inspector General Joseph Boinnet on Wednesday.

Somali based terror organization Al Shabaab has since confirmed that it was behind the siege in Nairobi's Westlands area which was reportedly carried out by five terrorists.

Mwaura's observation comes amid similar calls from President Uhuru Kenyatta and other notable politicians who have been calling for political calm.

However, a section of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been reluctant to adhere and have been drumming up support for his (Ruto) 2022 presidential bid.
