The opposition leader was the chief guest during a Christmas luncheon and a fundraiser at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Kangoya Child Development Center.

Raila, who played father Christmas and served children with pilau during the event, observed many kids were undergoing many challenges and called for their protection.

"It is generally accepted that the family is the natural environment for the growth, well-being and protection of children. Yet today, many children in our society are deprived of parental care due to death of parents, poverty, the impact of HIV and AIDS, disability and other causes. Our shared ambition must be to ensure that such children and all children grow up in the environment most positive and natural for their growth, well-being and protection," he said in his remarks.

Raila's visit to President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard came three days ahead of the Head of State's visit to Luo Nyanza to launch one of his Big Four agenda.

President Kenyatta will on Thursday preside over the launch of the universal health coverage pilot phase in Kisumu County before visiting Siaya to launch a development project.

This will be the first time Uhuru will visit Nyanza region with his foe-turned-ally Raila since the March 9 handshake.
