Machakos residents have expressed mixed reactions after it emerged that 20 MPs flew to Moscow Russia on Sunday to watch the World Cup, the final march is set for this Sunday.

Residents who took to social media platforms to express their views hit out at the lawmakers,  saying that traveling to Russia using taxpayers' money was unwarranted.

The residents who shared views on Facebook pages that included the Ukambani Forum, Kamba Politics, Machakos County Forum and Machakos United lashed at the legislators terming them selfish.

However, there are residents who defended the MPs trip to Russia.

“MPs trip to Russia to watch World Cup at the expense of taxpayer’s money? Indeed we are a shithole country,” Stephen Mate posted.

“The MPs should be recalled, whose interests are they representing in Russia?" Monica Katheu said.

“It’s a scam, 20 MPs in Russia while Kenyans are wallowing in poverty what a shame!" Peter Muthini said.

“@ODPP @EACC please let the MPs return taxpayers money once they get back, we cannot fund their luxury in Russia,” Sofia Konini said.

“There is nothing wrong with Honorable legislators going to watch the world cup,” Mercy Mwende said.

“Why are Kenyans pissed off, the MPs are doing their work,” Cecilia Mbalu said.

On Thursday, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi confirmed that indeed 20 legislators had traveled to Russia to watch the World Cup.

Muturi said the MPs majority who are members of the National Assembly and Senate's  Culture and Sports Committee will table a report once they get back next week.

It estimated that the 20 MPs trip cost taxpayers a whooping Sh 50 Million.
