President Uhuru Kenyatta and his newly found partner Raila Odinga may be forced to go back to the drawing board even after persuading MPs to back 8% VAT on petroleum products.
Along with other austerity measures, Uhuru had rejected Finance Bill thus forcing parliament to vote for his proposal on Thursday.
But a section of Gusii MPs from either side of the coalitions have vowed to shoot down Uhuru's proposals.
"Our people are already being over taxed and allowing this to prevail, we are committing suicide," said Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka.
His Dagoretti North counterpart Simba Arati added: "We have money being wasted through duplication of jobs, over funding ministries whose functions are devolved and mega corruption. Let the President handle that first."
And the issue of NG-CDF and NGAAF was at play as MPs defended the allocations.
"We can't slash such allocations which directly benefits people. Let the President look for other avenues to get the money," said Kisii Women Rep Janet Ong'era.
Others present were Sylvanus Osoro, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Nyamoko, Jerusha Momanyi, Shadrack Mose.
Bobasi's Innocent Obiri and Bomachoge Chache's Zedock Ogutu also attended the presser on Tuesday.
