According to Star Lounge assistant manager Amos Machuka, the ongoing KICOSCA/CASA games in Kisii County is the reason beer prices have hiked.

"We are currently receiving a number of good customers between 5 pm and 12 am. Most the customers coming to drink beer are visitors who are in the county to attend the ongoing KICOSCA/CASA games," he said.

He said a bottle of beer currently retails at Sh200 from the previous price Sh170.

Machuka said the customers are not feeling the hike in the price since most bars are full by 7 pm.

"The hike will run throughout the KICOSCA/CASA period. Once the games are over, the prices will be back to normal," he stated.

Serengeti bar attendant, Charles Kimonwa stated that since the KICOSCA games started, they are operating 24 hours.

"We have not closed the bar since the games started because we have customers at the bar throughout. This is the period we will also enjoy profits. The hike in beer price has not affected the number of customers showing up," he said.

Kimonwa said a bottle of beer at Serengeti bar is retailing at Sh210.

A spot check at food joints in town also showed that there are several customers eating food from the joints.
