DPP Haji has termed Kanjama's claims of alleged cover-up as rumors and innuendo, noting that they are not backed by any evidence.

In a reply letter to Kanjama dated October 17, Haji said that his office does not make decisions or operate based on rumors.

“For avoidance of any doubt, this office does not operate or make decisions on rumors or innuendos, conjecture on contrived theories,” he said in the replying letter to Kanjama.

Haji further refuted claims by lawyer Kanjama that there is a deal for Mukhtar’s family to reach an out-of-court settlement with his alleged attackers.

The DPP said that his office is not aware of such claims, adding that the matter is still under investigation.

On October 15, Kanjama who is representing the Mukhtar family wrote to the DPP alleging interference into the case.

The lawyer further complained that the investigations are being dragged.

Kanjama also asked the DPP to order for the arrest and prosecution of Governor Ali Korane and his brother Mohamed Bunow in connection to the murder.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has also responded to Kanjama’s claims, saying that the investigation file is yet to be compiled and forwarded to the DPP.

Kinoti said that detectives are still probing the attempted murder.
