This is after the Supreme Court ruled that Wajir Governor Muhamad Abdi Mahamud will not be cross-examined over affidavits he had filed in court supporting his claims that he has the right academic papers.

In the previous hearing, the Ugandan Government had provided evidence that reveals that Governor Mahamud was not in Uganda at the time he claims he was pursuing his degree.

Abdullahi had filed an application asking the court to allow him question the governor over the degree he received from Kampala International University claiming it was obtained fraudulently.

The Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice David Maraga in their ruling dismissed the application saying the former governor failed to demonstrate how the degree was obtained fraudulently.

The Supreme Court allowed the governor to bring in new evidence to support his claims that he has the right academic papers.

This is after Appellate Court judges, Justice Philip Waki, Milton Makhandia and Patrick Kiage upheld the High Court’s decision to nullify governor Mahamud’s election.

High Court Judge Alfred Mabeya in his ruling said that the Jubilee governor did not have a valid undergraduate degree certificate and was not legally cleared to contest for the seat in the August 8, 2017 General Election.
