Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke has taken a low political life since losing re-election in the August 8, 2017 general election.
In 2013, Mueke was elected alongside former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero.
The duo lost re-election to Governor Mike Sonko in the hotly contested 2017 gubernatorial election.
Mueke has since remained silent since they lost to Sonko.
However, as 2022 succession politics continue to take shape, there are claims that the former deputy governor is strategizing to make a political comeback.
Mueke is said to be eyeing to contest the Kitui or Makueni governor seat in the 2022 general election.
The former Nairobi governor is said to be lobbying Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the endorsement in Kitui or Makueni in 2022.
Speaking in Embakasi South on Saturday when he joined campaigns for Julius Mawathe ahead of the April 5 by-election, Mueke promised to make a comeback.
The former Nairobi deputy governor said he has not given up on politics.
“I still have the energy and will return so that we work together to uplift the lives of Kenyans,” he said.
Mueke, however, did not hint directly hint on the seat he is likely to contest in the upcoming general election.
The former deputy governor urged Embakasi South residents to vote for Mawathe on April 5.
He said Mawathe is the right person for the seat noting that he is a development-oriented leader.
Mawathe is expected to battle it out with ODM’s Irshad Sumra and others in the by-election.
Political analysts say the Embakasi South by-election battle is a two-horse between Sumra and Mawathe.
