The former Subukia lawmaker, while speaking on Saturday, based his argument on the increasing number of ex-military and police officers holding key state positions.

He said that this might land the nation in the league of other African nations under dictatorial rule, which might, in turn, make it even hard for Kenyans to enjoy their rights.

"Hapa Kenya tunaona askari wanaongezwa mamlakani, inawezekana uongozi wa mabavu ushaanza. (In Kenya we are already witnessing more officers being allocated top positions, it is possible that dictatorship has began)," Koigi said during an interview on Cheche show on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi on Saturday.

The latest ex-military entrant in the government is former army man Cyrus Oguna, barely two years after the entry of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji and his Criminal Investigation (DCI) counterpart George Kinoti.

Both were fetched from the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Koigi also lashed out at political leaders for doing very little in the fight against corruption, further bashing those implicated in corrupt dealings for clinging on their positions.

The former Assistant Cabinet Minister stressed on the need for those named in the graft to consider stepping aside to give room for investigations, failure to which he said the fight might never be won.

"Hawa viongozi wa kung'ang'ania uongozi watatusumbua sana. Na kama tunataka viongozi wa kujiuzulu wanapopatikana na makosa huenda hatutawapata. (The leaders who are clinging on elective seats will cause us lots of problems in the future. It will as well be almost impossible to see leaders vacate their seats once implicated)," he added.
