Led by former advisor to Uhuru, Dr. Kilemi Mwiria, the leaders largely assembled from Meru and Tharaka-Nithi counties blamed Ruto and his allies of allegedly sabotaging the president's agenda.

“We know those who have been sabotaging the process since it was initiated. We also know the Mt Kenya leaders who joined them, thronging different churches to insult Raila,” Mwiria said in reference to Ruto.

He added: "“President Kenyatta shouldn't be blackmailed by barons of graft. He must mercilessly crash all merchants of impunity and cleanse Kenya by even sacking thethem. That will be his best legacy."

While vowing to back Raila Odinga in 2022 should he contest, they also warned Ruto's camp against insulting Raila in church harambees.

Further, the team cautioned the DP against using his close associates to sabotage Uhuru's handshake with Raila.

“This is Kenya's moment. We ask our colleagues to stop insulting Raila during their church harambees. It's unholy to misuse places of worship,” they said.

The latest declaration is a blow to Ruto's chances given that the Meru region, through its elected leaders had positioned itself for a running mate position.
