In what is seen as a blow to Ruto's 2022 ambitions, Uhuru appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as Chairman for powerful National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, whose roles could sabotage Ruto's plan.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta appoints Matiangi to supervise delivery of all government projects including Big 4; report directly. That is the real mtu wa mkono wa president period!!! busy bodies wajipe shughuli," he posted on his Twitter.

The last bit translates to: "This (Fred Matiang'i) is the real right hand man of the president period! Busybodies should get something better to do."

Mr Keter has been at loggerheads with Dr Ruto, often blaming him on election petition in which he'd lost at High Court before being rescued by Appeals Court in July 2018.

In a press conference late last year, Keter, in the company of Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Joshua Kutuny of Cherangany, accused DP Ruto of allegedly orchestrating maize farmers woes in North Rift following dubious payments to rogue traders by NCPB.

But in a rejoinder at Bomet in November, Ruto accused Keter of being on Gideon Moi's 'payroll' to taint his name. Mr Moi, who doubles as Baringo senator and KANU chair, is set to contest presidency in 2022.
