The activists from two different organisations wrote a letter to the county leadership, giving them up to October 20 for the county's Public Service Board  (PSB) to fill the positions.

They said it was wrong for the positions to remain unfilled yet a fully functional government and public service board are in place.

In a letter addressed to the PSB chairman Waithanji Mutiti, the lobbysts led by the secretary of the Nakuru County Public Opinion Consultative Intiative Daniel Murugu demanded that the positions be filled by the next Mashujaa Day.

Murugu,  alongside chairman Eliass Magoma of the Nakuru Residents Association and vice-chair of the Nakuru Citizens’ Watch Forum Modern Mbinji, wrote the letter dated August 26 and delivered it the county government, whose officials confirmed receipt on Tuesday.

They said the vacant positions are those of Health minister, two chief officers, two sub-county municipal board members for Nakuru and Naivasha, 22 sub-county administrators and their deputies, one director and 55 ward administrators.

“Residents of Nakuru are of the opinion that that the positions should be filled by October 20 2014 as a matter of urgency to improve on service delivery and maximise devolution gains making Nakuru a role model among the 47 counties,” stated the letter.

“In another issue of concern to citizens, we want your board to convene a public forum or town hall meeting to enlighten and sensitise them on the board’s mandate including key achievements and probable challenges preferably before November 25, 2014,” they wrote.
