Residents of Bomachabe in Nyamira County have raised alarm after it has emerged that unknown people have been stealing electricity meters from various homes in the area.
The locals said affected areas include Nyankororo and Nyamira center.
The residents claimed that suspects goes to homes at night and steals the devices while they are a sleep.
“Kenya power successfully connected electricity to my homestead but thieves stole the meter placed on the wall outside my house at night while everyone was a sleep. I am worried because I spent too much to acquire the meter”, said James Ongoro, a resident.
He added that his homestead is now left in the dark because he has no money to process for another meter.
“We are now forced to use candles to lit in the house at night because electricity is no longer there after the thieves stole the meter. As of now I don’t have money to go to Kenya power and process another meter which involves a costly process to get,” he noted.
Another resident, John Mabuka called on county commissioner Isaiah Nakoru with the help of police officers, chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials to conduct a crackdown to arrest the suspects terrorizing residents.
