A political clash looms this weekend as the Orange democratic Movement (ODM) Nakuru branch plans to hold a public rally today in Kaptembwa.
This is the backyard of ODM’s rebel Nakuru Town MP Samuel Arama who is opposed to the rally, saying its agenda does not augur well with local residents. Arama said the meeting aims at fighting him politically and dared the officials to hold it.
Nakuru town ODM chairman Dennis Okomol said that preparations for the rally are at an advanced stage and it will go on whether Arama likes it or not. He said the meeting will take place from 2pm at Soko Mjinga open grounds and that local ODM officials are consulting to decide which ODM national political figure will grace the event.
Okomol said the main agenda of the forum will be to sensitise party members on actions to be taken against errant party members.
“The second agenda will be to drum up support for the national referendum called by party leaders Raila Odinga," he said.
He added that next Wednesday in Nairobi, the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) will officially launch its referendum drive.
Organisers of the rally include minority leader at Nakuru County assembly Daniel Ambale, who's also the area MCA, his Kivumbini counterpart Vitalis Okello and Olkaria MCA Peter Manyonge Palang'a. Others are former Nakuru municipal councillors William Ating'a and Rose Lai.
Embattled Arama is fiercely opposed to the referendum.
