Three armed gangsters last night raided Nakuru town's Kwa Buda shopping centre in Engashura area and managed to steal a motorbike and an unknown amount of money.
The thugs invaded a pharmacy and an M-Pesa outlet where they took employees hostage before fleeing with unknown amounts of money, sources say.
Witnesses to the 8pm Thursday incident said the thugs posed as customers to the unsuspecting public before committing the crime. They then rode off on motorcycles.
Nakuru North district commissioner Kithinji Ithaiya was among the first security officers at the scene and condemned the incident. He promised that comprehensive investigations will be conducted to unmask the suspects, who were alleged to be Nakuru town-based policemen.
He asked the public to be alert and report suspicious characters spotted in the area.
The residents said they are living in fear since this is the seventh attack to occur at the shopping centre in the last two years without any arrests.
No one was injured in the latest occurrence although the thugs shot in the air while fleeing.
