A long search aimed at retrieving the body of a form four students from river Nyangweta successfully ended on Wednesday evening.

The girl tripled into the river as she was crossing a foot-bridge on Tuesday afternoon and efforts to save her immediately bore no fruits.

However, a combined effort by locals and officials from the county government saw the body of the girl retrieved from the waters and taken to the Ogembo district hospital mortuary.

"The girl was on her way from school when the incident took place and efforts to save her immediately bore no fruits. However, today her body was recovered," said Elijah Nyabuto. the area chief.

Mr Nyabuto lauded locals for their efforts and cooperation aimed at retrieving the body.

He warned locals and school going children against using the Nyangweta river bridge saying that they risked drowning in the water.

“Teachers should direct pupils and students not to use the Nyangweta River Bridge especially those crossing over from Riamaiga to Geteri area, that way we shall have saved many lives," he said.
