It is alleged that the boy together with her three friends were swimming in the swamp when he drowned in water.

Confirming the incident area assistant chief John Isaboke said the deceased identified as John Memba Junior was on his way home from schoo with other pupils when they decided to swim in the swamp.

"The deceased was with his 3 colleagues when they decided to swim in the swamp. Unfortunately, he drowned and his friends escaped but failed to inform his parents," said the chief.

The local administrator added that the parents launched a search after they waited for the deceased to return home in vain.

"The parents and other residents launched a search for the boy after he failed to return home in the evening from school. His uniforms and books were found near the swamp and later the locals found him dead water," he noted.

He urged parents to advise their children accordingly to avoid going near swampy areas during this rainy season.

The boy's body was taken to Nyamira County hospital mortuary.
