A boy aged 10 years from Nyanguru village in Nyanko within Kisii County on Monday evening escaped death narrowly after he was stricken by thunderstorm.
Enock Omanwa, area chief confirmed the incident and said the boy was sheltering outside their house when thunderstorm struck him.
“The boy was rushed to a Kisii hospital for treatment after he complained of pains on his right hand.
Parents are advised to ensure their children are safe during this rainy season to avoid unnecessary deaths caused by lightening and thunderstorm,” Omanwa noted.
Omanwa said since the rains started this is the first incident of thunder to be reported in the region.
"Kisii region has been experiencing heavy rains in the past 3 weeks and this is the first case of lighting and thunderstorm to be reported. Locals should be careful and ensure they are safe and avoid unnecessary movements when it is raining,” he said.
The local administrator urged locals in areas usually affected by lightening and thunderstorm to put thunderstorm arresters at their premises for safety purposes.
He said the region will continue receiving heavy rains and locals should prepare to harvest rainy waters.
Reached for a comment the boy's mother Ann Osebe said she was harvesting rain water when the incident occurred.
"I was busy harvesting rain when the the incident occurred. I learnt with shock that my son has been struck bu thunderstorm.I feel that it is a bad omen for such to happen to my family," she said.
