It is alleged that some drivers are collecting garbage from specific big hotels located along Nyali coast line beach at a fee, leaving The town stinky.

This behavior is said to be a leading factor contributing to growing of heaps of uncollected garbage situated in various points within the county.

"I once traced a truck I came across at Nyali bridge, to my surprise the truck driver passed heaps of uncollected garbage just by the road side, the driver was driving towards Nyali, I'm certain he was headed to one of the big hotels to collect garbage, where he was set to receive mlungula for the service," said governor Joho during the flagging off of 12 garbage collection trucks, at treasury square, 20th April 2018.

"Reaching upon the road leading to Mombasa beach the driver had a smell that he was being pursued from behind and decided to take another route back to town, aborting his mission."

For a while the county has been on the spot for failing to keep the port city clean, accused of scaring away investors, resulting to sluggish growth of economic activities in Mombasa.

Joho fired a stern warning, hinting out that no one will be spared if found guilty of such like an activity.

"These trucks have been purchased to serve the public, if you have been working serving the hotel industry illegally it’s my request you stop this trend immediately, because if we set our hands on you, you will regret and I don't believe I was elected to make people regret."
