The county government of Uasin Gishu has initiated an ambitious program that will see each of the public health facility get a maternity unit.

According to the county's Department of Health Services Chief Officer Wilson Kemei, the move is meant to ensure easy access to quality health services for pregnant mothers.

Speaking during a visit to the construction site for the 40-bed Kapteldon sub-county hospital on Saturday, Kemei reaffirmed the county government's commitment to improving the health sector.

He also visited West maternity clinic where there's ongoing construction of a 70-bed hospital.

"We want each of our health facilities across the county to have modernized maternity unit so that our mothers even in the remotest areas get those services," Kemei said.

Uasin Gishu has over 120 health facilities spread across the 6 sub-counties and 30 wards.Ends
