Police were on Sunday puzzled by reports of thugs disguised as nuns robbing a forex bureau in Nairobi’s Karen area of Sh2 million.

The thugs are believed to have first drugged the bureau attendant before robbing him of the cash.

Detectives have since arrested the attendant for interrogation after they found his statement “unconvincing”. The gang of two had walked into the bureau on Sunday afternoon claiming they wanted to exchange thousands of US dollars into Kenyan shillings.

Police sources said the suspects were dressed as nuns when they walked into the bureau before demanding to exchange the money they had. It was then that police suspect the two used a poisonous gas drug the attendant.

CCTV footage captured at the bureau shows the thugs talking to the attendant briefly before he allows them into the strongroom. Karen OCPD Cunningham Suiyanka said they arrested the attendant for interrogation because his narrative was not adding up.

“We wonder why and how he opened the door for the said suspects to enter the strongroom,” he said. Suiyanka added that they suspected the robbery was an inside job and vowed to apprehend the suspects behind the incident.
