Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has faulted the government for failing to compensate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), 10 years since they were displaced from their homes.

Speaking in Eldoret Town on Saturday, Chemno said the IDPs have been suffering still clinging to hope that the government will compensate them as promised.

"I am appealing with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto to allocate funds to resettle the remaining IDPs because up to date, they have not received anything.

They are fearing what the government pledged could be an empty promise," he said.

The deputy governor said the county would help in weeding out fake IDPs to ensure the government officials speed up the exercise of compensation.

"We will help in vetting the genuine ones so they can receive the assistance and boost their livelihoods," Chemno said.

Speaking during a campaign rally ahead of the August 8 General Election in Kisii County, both the President and his deputy vowed to ensure all the people who were affected by 2007-2008 poll skirmishes are adequately compensated.

They announced that each IDP would receive Sh210,000 before the end of the year.
