Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has exuded confidence that the court will throw out a petition challenging his re-election in last year’s general election.

Speaking at the Milimani Law courts where the hearing of the petition concluded on Thursday, Duale said that he has nothing to be afraid of.

The leader of Majority in the National Assembly said that his re-election was genuine, terming the petition filed by former Deputy Speaker as weak.

“We have proven to the court that Farah Maalim’s case was based on malice and speculation and we pray that the court will dismiss it on February 27,” he said.

Duale said that he will continue discharging his duties as an elected MP as he waists the court ruling on February 27.

He urged his supporters to remain calm noting that there is nothing to worry about. Maalim filed the petition alleging massive irregularities and illegalities in the election.

The Wiper party deputy leader in his petition accused Duale of allegedly campaigning and dishing out money to supporters on the voting day.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Duale the winner of the Garissa seat in last year’s election.

Duale according to IEBC results garnered 22,587 votes against Maalim’s 14,897 votes

Justice Hewing Ongu’di will make a ruling on the petition on February 27 after hearing concluded on Thursday with parties making final submissions.
