Duale said the country was not ready for a referendum at the moment as the opposition leader Raila Odinga and his lieutenants in ODM have been pushing, but observed since it was their right to call for the changes of the constitution, they should follow the law over the matter.

"Let the proponents of change the constitution follow the process through Parliament or the people's initiative by collecting one million signatures. We wish them luck," he told Sunday Standard.

The Garissa Township MP added: "The President has pronounced himself and we are behind him. As Jubilee, we want him to secure his legacy by supporting his programmes and cutting down on politics to concentrate on development."

On Friday Uhuru said he was not supporting calls for a referendum, saying his focus was on the Big Four Agenda which he said would transform the lives of Kenyans and not politics.

"I want to deliver on the promises we made to Kenyans. Changing the constitution will not solve the problems we have. But engaging with the private sector on manufacturing like we are doing well," the Head of State said speaking in Nanyuki.
