Con groups who dupe people around Eldoret town that they can multiply money have been put on notice.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan says the police will soon mount a major operation aimed at flushing out all those involved in the illegal business, popularly known as 'Wash Wash' among the locals.

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, Hassan said they have already identified the criminals' hideouts and will soon face the full force of the law.

"I want to tell those people making fake money and engaging in the 'Wash Wash' business to go and wash them elsewhere but not here in Uasin Gishu," warned the county commissioner.

"There's this place called Kambi karatasi, I am told some of them operate from there and they should be warned that we've our eyes on them," he added.

Hassan noted that the security team in the county will now allow con groups to rob people of their hard-earned cash.

Eldoret town has been awash with 'Wash Wash'stories where con groups dupe unsuspecting members of the public that they can multiply money but end up leaving victims with fake currency, as they flee with the genuine cash given to them.
