The Nakuru man who captured headlines worldwide after he fell in love and proposed to marry former US President Bill Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, is dead.

Reports indicate that Godwin Chepkurgor, a former Nakuru municipal councillor, was attacked by an elephant last night, as he photographed the animals at Kisanana, at the boundary of Nakuru and Baringo counties.  

Confirming the reports, Solai MCA Paul Chebor said Chepkurgor died while undergoing treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General hospital in Nakuru town.

According to the communications executive of the Nakuru Public Service Board, Peter Mbae, the former councillor was attacked by the elephant and its young one on the loose.

“He was pronounced dead as he was about to be operated in the theatre at Nakuru PGH,” he wrote on Facebook.

“He was attacked when he approached the herd of elephants and began taking photographs,” he added.

Chepkurgor, who hails from Banita area, became famous in 2000 when he proposed to marry the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton.

He wrote to then President Bill Clinton through Kenya’s Foreign Affairs minister, offering 40 goats and 20 cows as dowry.
