The former Lagdera Member of Parliament who vied for the Garissa town parliamentary seat in the August poll has been quiet recently, following his petition loss to incumbent parliamentarian Aden Duale.

However, in a tweet Saturday, in one of his rather academic statements, the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker attracted attention to the town.

He claimed that the town was known as 'Kwa Farah' during the precolonial era, a name given to the then small trading center as a result of the man who discovered it, a Somali businessman named Farah.

"Mwingi was called Kwa Farah, the first trader was a Somali called Farah. Its a testimony of the brotherhood and historical relationships between African tribes in the continent" he said.

The leader also stressed on the need for Kenyans to shun tribalism and embrace positive diversity, as was the case before the coming of the colonialists.

"Pan Africanism thrived hundreds of years before the advent of colonialism. Kenyans let's embrace diversity," he advised.

The town is currently classified under the greater Kitui county under the leadership of Governor Charity Ngilu.
