Here is the full statement:

The country has in the past one month been treated to reports of corruption in government that hit crescendo this week with revelations presented to parliamentary committees investigating the matter.

From the National Youth Service, Youth Enterprise Fund to National Cereals and Produce Board, the revelations are shocking and risks retarding the development agenda of the country.

Of particular interest is the revelations at the rot in the National Cereals and Produce Board where cartels seems to have taken over its operations that has exposed the Kenyan farmer.

For months, we as leaders from Rift Valley have raised issues over the manner in which farmers were suffering to sell their maize, receive payments and release of the government’s subsidized fertilizer.

Now that reports confirming our fears have been tabled in parliamentary committees, I am calling on His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta to crack the whip on all those who are culpable.

This is the only way that can restore faith to the common Kenyan that the President is serious in the fight against corruption which threatens to derail his Big Four agenda and leave a lasting legacy at the end of his term.

And as investigations are being carried out further to establish those culpable, I am requesting the President to ensure that his government sorts out the genuine farmers by releasing their payments.

They should not suffer because of the cartels that benefited through unscrupulous ways.

The government through Agricultural Finance Corporation should also consider extending a grace period for the genuine farmers who took loans and are servicing until such a time when NCPB and the treasury finishes processing the payments.

Hon. Senator Gideon Moi MAY 25th 2018
