Fishermen at Lake Naivasha have raised alarm over the increased hippo attacks.

According to the fishermen, in the last one week, five people have been attacked by the animals with one of them succumbing to the injuries.

In the latest attack on Saturday evening at Kihoto area, a fisherman was attacked.

“We are in fear fishing in the waters because the animals seem to have increased in numbers,” said Jeremiah Oloo, a fisherman.

Oloo said most of the attacks occur during the day when fishermen are at work.

“Enoch Romano was attacked and lost all his legs a week ago and he is ongoing with treatment at Naivasha Sub County hospital,” he said.

Kenya Wildlife Service warden Lewis Chege said 2 hippos have been killed following the attacks.

Chege urged fishermen to be more cautious when carrying on their activities at the lake to curb attacks.
