The game, which ended 3-0 in favor of Croatia has left Lionel Messi's World Cup dream hanging. Second-half goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric, and Ivan Rakitic saw the Croatian team top its side. 

The outcome of the match means that Argentina now have only two points from two matches. The team now has to beat Nigeria and hope that the outcome of the other matches favor them. 

The Argentines were left in tears as they watched their national team fire blanks. The Croatian team managed to take the lead following a blunder by the Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero in the 53rd minute. 

Messi could not believe his eyes as he saw Rebic pick the ball from the air and fire into their goals sending the crowd into cheers.

Real Madrid star Luka Modric’s electric shot in the 80th minute did not yield positive results for the Argentines. Messi's Barcelona team-mate Rakitic added salt to the wound when he netted the third goals leaving Messi and his teammates helpless and hopeless. 

Messi had retired from the national team before he was requested not to hang his boots by the Argentina fans including the President.
