Seven ex-Nakumatt employees have come together to establish their own supermarket. The supermarket, Lemigo Holdings Superstore, will be launched in Kisumu’s Kondole area later in the month. One of the store’s directors, Benson Olang’, said they have been contemplating opening a supermarket for the last seven years, adding that the woes being experienced at Nakumatt finally drove them to set up the supermarket. He said they are confident as they step out into the new venture as they have the required experience having worked for Nakumatt for over 20 years.“We feel we have gained enough experience because it is a business we understand, we felt it was time to resign and set up our own store,” said Olang’.Olang’ further revealed that they have hired a section of their former colleagues who were rendered jobless after the Nakumatt Mega Plaza branch in Kisumu was shut down three months ago.He further said that they intend to open other branches across the country and urged small business owners to take advantage of the store to sell their products.“We want to encourage small businesses to bring their products so that we can provide a market for their products,” said Olang’, as quoted by Capital FM.Nakumatt has closed several of its branches due to heavy losses and inability to pay suppliers.
